Amanda Luell, DVM
Dr. Amanda Luell is a native Oregonian and is very happy to be living in Oregon again after being away for almost 20 years. She grew up in Eugene and graduated from South Eugene High School in 1987.
After high school, she attended college near Boston, MA, where she earned a degree in History. Dr. Amanda moved to Seattle and worked for Fishing & Hunting News for eight years as a Copy Editor on their Oregon and Colorado editions.
She entered Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 expecting to become a large animal veterinarian. She worked with the Arab research herd on campus and was responsible for all aspects of the breeding – including ultrasound, palpation, and stallion handling for live cover breeding.
She also assisted with managing the herd health program for the research flock of sheep and herd of goats. After graduation, she spent six months working at Harris Farms Thoroughbred Division in Central California, treating everything from colic to uterine infections, foal pneumonia, and lacerations, she also took on the responsibility of managing their feral cat population and discovered she really loved taking care of the cats.
Feline medicine has since become a passion for Amanda. When not practicing vet medicine she spends time with her husband Leigh, their five cats and one horse. Once the weather gets warm, they are hoping to take advantage of the great outdoors, going camping and hiking.
